Getting Ready Photos

Getting ready photos are a wonderful way to start your wedding day story. They capture the emotions, the excitement, and all the little moments that make your day uniquely yours. I love photographing this part of the day and ensuring you have these memories preserved forever.

Getting Ready Photos

Getting ready for your wedding day surrounded by your closest friends and family is one of the most fun and memorable parts of the day. There is an undeniable energy in the room—laughter, excitement, and love all coming together in anticipation of the big moment. These final moments before you walk down the aisle are filled with emotion. You definitely don’t want to miss the opportunity to have them captured.

In addition to the joy and excitement, getting ready photos also capture meaningful little details. From that piece of family heirloom jewelry, to making last minute adjustments to the vows, or a heartfelt blessing from your dad, to laughter and toasts with your wedding party—these moments are both quiet and fleeting. Having them documented ensures you can look back on the full story of your day.

Getting Ready FAQ

Why should I have “getting ready” photos taken?

While not a requirement for capturing your wedding day, getting ready photos provide context and a beautiful starting point for telling the story of your day. They showcase the excitement and anticipation while also helping you ease into being photographed in a relaxed and low-pressure setting.

When should photography start for getting ready photos?

I typically recommend covering the final 1–2 hours of your getting ready process. This timeframe allows for a mix of detail photos, candids, and the final finishing touches.

What should I have on hand to facilitate the photography?

Details, details, details! This is when I love capturing items like invitations, rings, flowers, shoes, wedding attire, vow books, and anything else meaningful to you. Before the wedding day, set aside these items in a box and bring them to your getting ready location to ensure nothing is missed.

Will getting ready photos affect my hair & makeup timeline?

Not at all! I capture moments as they happen naturally. I can move between taking candid shots of everyone in the room, detail photos, and highlighting your hair and makeup as you get the final touches done.

Can you do getting ready photos for the groom as well?

Absolutely! Groom getting ready photos are just as meaningful. These sessions are usually less involved than the bride’s but still provide great moments, including details like cufflinks, ties, and shoes, as well as fun candids of the guys joking around and getting ready. If you’re getting ready at the same venue, I can easily pop between rooms. If the groom is at a different location, we may need to discuss adding extra time or a second photographer to the package.
